In the footsteps of Mamma Mia

The only way to describe VILLA ATHENA in its tranquil garden setting is "boutique a la Greek." Exclusive and intimate, it comprises of 6 self catering twin bedded, immaculately maintained studios that are furnished in a way that encapsulates the essence of Greek style.

Situated on a hill overlooking Megali Ammos Bay, where every studio enjoys sweeping views across the Aegean, Villa Athena is a pleasant 15 minute stroll to the main town and port. As her guest, you can expect the highly specialised service of the resident owner/manager, Peggy Loebenberg, whose attention to detail ensures you of an unforgettable island stay in an ambiance where inviting and personal elements team up with sophisticated elegance in a seamlessly unique blend.

Peggy, a Silwood Kitchen Cordons Bleus graduate herself, is introducing an added attraction to her special venue in the form of cookery workshops in which she will assist Yvonne Romano, the legendary foodie who ran her own Mediterranean Villa where she had her own guest house, cookery school and a 70 seater dining facility for in-house functions. Vonni's long standing love affair with Mediterranean food began at an early age when she married a Greek from Alexandropolous whose paternal forbearer's hailed from Istanbul. Over the years she has stayed on over 30 of the Greek Islands and has also traveled and worked widely in Cyprus, and Turkey. She is fluent in Greek, English, Afrikaans and has a passable knowledge of French.

What's cooking on Skiathos this summer?

Vonnie will be sharing her knowledge and experience with you in a creative fusion of Greek style and Turkish delights which will include some local specialties such as Skopelos Cheese Pies, Spetsofai as well as classics like Iman Bayildi, Lamb Kleftiko, Yiouvetsi, Papoutsakia, Saganaki and Cigar Boregi.

They will be hosting a 5 day hands-on cookery course during May, July and July 2011. Each class will end with a sit down communal feast on our spacious terrace overlooking the Aegean. There'll be opportunities to go on some culinary outings including a short boat excursion to a seaside Taverna at Katogiorgi on the Pelion mainland for a magnificent luncheon spread; and you'll savour the exceptional midday meze experience at Anatoli Taverna perched on the slopes of Kalivia overlooking Skopelos Island.

Can you imagine a more enjoyable way of learning about Greek and Turkish Fare, meeting new people and having FUN?

To find out more, please contact Peggy: villa-athena@skt.forthnet.gr and she'll send you the full program.

We look forward to welcoming you soon,

Peggy
